This year I've decided to sketch many of The Great Holy Men and Women of the Church. Come along with me on this journey as we get to know our elder brothers and sisters in faith.
"And therefore we also having so great a cloud of witnesses over our head, laying aside every weight and sin which surrounds us, let us run by patience to the fight proposed to us," Heb 12:1
Simon the Zealot
Simon the Zealot [Hebrew: סיימון, Shim'on] (c. 4 B.C.- 61 A.D.) was one of the 12 Apostles of Christ. Perhaps the most enigmatic of the Apostles, very little is known of his life although his name seems to indicate that he may have been a former anti-Roman jewish radical. According to tradition he set out to preach the Gospel in the Roman province of Dacia (Modern Romania) and was martyred there.
