This year I've decided to sketch many of The Great Holy Men and Women of the Church. Come along with me on this journey as we get to know our elder brothers and sisters in faith.
"And therefore we also having so great a cloud of witnesses over our head, laying aside every weight and sin which surrounds us, let us run by patience to the fight proposed to us," Heb 12:1
Vincent De Paul
Vincent De Paul (Latin: Vicentivs De Pavlvs) was born in 1581 in the village of Pouy in Gascony, in the Kingdom of France, to peasant farmers. At 15, his father sent him to the seminary in Marseilles. Not long after, he was kidnapped by Tunisian pirates, and sold into slavery,. After two years of bondage he worked his way back to France and regained his freedom. As a priest he dedicated himself to serving the poor. De Paul was renowned for his compassion, humility, and generosity and is known as the "Great Apostle of Charity".
