Cosmas and Damian - Rosanne Pappas

This year I've decided to sketch many of The Great Holy Men and Women of the Church. Come along with me on this journey as we get to know our elder brothers and sisters in faith.

"And therefore we also having so great a cloud of witnesses over our head, laying aside every weight and sin which surrounds us, let us run by patience to the fight proposed to us," Heb 12:1

Cosmas and Damian

September 26 (Gregorian Calendar)

November 1 (Julian Calendar)

According to Christian traditions, Cosmas and Damian (Greek: Κοσμάς και Δαμιανός)(died ca. 287) were twin brothers, physicians, and early Christian martyrs born in Cilicia, (modern day Turkey). They practiced their profession in the seaport of Ayas, Adana, then in the Roman province of Syria. Accepting no payment for their services it has been said that, by this, they attracted many to the Christian faith. Ultimately they were executed by the Romans for their faith.
